Troubleshooting - Unable to Access the Firestreamer Storage Controller
On This Page
Problem Description
The Firestreamer Snap-in displays the following message: Unable to access the Firestreamer Storage Controller <error>.
Troubleshooting
If the specific error displayed is Access Denied or similar, then your user account may have insufficient privileges. If this is the case, use the Permissions form to grant yourself the right to access Firestreamer.
Otherwise, verify that the correct drivers are loaded for Firestreamer by following the steps below:
- If you have just installed Firestreamer and have not restarted your computer yet, restart it now to see if the problem goes away.
- Check the Release Notes to see the drivers of which version are shipped with your version of Firestreamer. For example, Firestreamer 4.0 is shipped with the 4.0.1 drivers.
- Open Windows Device Manager.
- In the device tree, under Storage Controllers, there must be one instance of Firestreamer Storage Controller. Right-click it, and then click Properties.
- On the General tab, under Device Status, there must be a note that the device is working properly.
- Click the Driver tab, and then click Driver Details. There must be only one driver listed, clfs3chr.sys. The File version number must match the driver version number obtained at step 2. Click OK twice to close the dialog boxes.
- In the device tree, under Media Changer devices, there must be one or more instances of Firestreamer Media Changer. The number of instances must match the number of configured tape libraries (by default, one).
- Right-click the first instance of Firestreamer Media Changer, and then click Properties.
- On the General tab, under Device Status, there must be a note that the device is working properly.
- Click the Driver tab, and then click Driver Details. There must be only one driver listed, clfs3mcn.sys. The File version number must match the driver version number obtained at step 2. Click OK twice to close the dialog boxes.
- Repeat steps 8-10 for each instance of Firestreamer Media Changer.
- In the device tree, under Tape drives, there must be one or more instances of Firestreamer Tape Drive. The number of instances must match the total number of configured tape drives in all tape libraries (by default, five). IMPORTANT: If you also have Firestreamer 3.3 or older installed on your computer, there will be an additional instance of Firestreamer Tape Drive related to that version of Firestreamer.
- Right-click the first instance of Firestreamer Tape Drive, and then click Properties.
- On the General tab, under Device Status, there must be a note that the device is working properly.
- Click the Driver tab, and then click Driver Details. There must be only one driver listed, clfs3mtp.sys. The File version number must match the driver version number obtained at step 2. Click OK twice to close the dialog boxes.
- Repeat steps 13-15 for each instance of Firestreamer Tape Drive.
