March 28, 2006 -- Cristalink Limited announced the release of the
64-bit version of Firestreamer-RM, software that extends the functionality
of Microsoft's native backup solutions for Microsoft Windows, Microsoft
Exchange, SQL and Small Business Servers. Firestreamer-RM emulates
a virtual tape drive and allows Microsoft Backup and Microsoft SQL
Server Backup to directly access DVD, Iomega REV and hard disk drive
media with data compression and strong encryption. The new version
introduces numerous enhancements to scheduled backups, such as flexible
and easy to use media management options, SMTP email notifications
with log file attachments, backup summary reports and a customizable
parser for Microsoft Backup's log files.
Other features of Firestreamer-RM include the automatic media and
drive spanning, support for multiple media drives and ability to
back up to remote iSCSI devices. The software integrates with Windows
Automated System Recovery (ASR) and allows scheduled ASR backups
and bare metal restores.
Firestreamer-RM supports both x64 and IA-64 (Intel Itanium) editions
of Microsoft Windows, in addition to standard 32-bit Microsoft Windows
2000, XP and Server 2003, and is compatible with Microsoft Exchange
Server, SQL Server and Small Business Server. It can also be used
in conjunction with other tape based backup software, such as Symantec
Backup Exec. A fully functional version of Firestreamer-RM is available
for a free 30-day trial from Cristalink's website at http://www.cristalink.com.
"As a member of the Itanium Solutions Alliance, Cristalink has demonstrated
commitment to the Alliance's mission with the release of the 64-bit
version of Firestreamer-RM," said Clifford Loeb, vice president,
high end servers, NEC Solutions America, a founding sponsor of the
Alliance. "This application, along with more than 7,000 others, reinforces
that the Alliance's goal of accelerating the adoption and ongoing
development of Itanium solutions is being achieved around the world."
