I have been having an issue with one of the 5 backups I have during the week. We have a rotation of 5 backups for different folders, this one in particular stops, and it doesn't seem to stop at any specific file. All the NTBackup log states...

Folder Y:\~~~~\1007\CAD
2102CD.bak 474848 7/28/2010 6:59 AM
2102CD.dwg 362976 7/28/2010 7:01 AM
2102CG.bak 365888 7/28/2010 5:35 AM
The requested media failed to mount. The operation was aborted.
The operation was ended.
Backup completed on 11/18/2010 at 3:30 PM.

The backup still has around 4 gig left of a single dvd, and if I do the same backup to a file, walks through fine. Backup the other 4 folders I have for M/T/Th/F to DVD works as well. Doesn't stop on the same file. Not quite sure what to make of it.

The event log had a VSS 12290 warning at the start of the backup at 3:15PM
Volume Shadow Copy Service warning: GetVolumeNameForVolumeMountPointW( '\\?\Volume{23b0abb4-0ec5-11df-b9db-806e6f6e6963}\'): 0x00000003. hr = 0x00000000.

- Are you using Firestreamer-RM Wrapper for sheduled backups? If yes, what's the content of the wrapper log file?
- Is there anything written to the DVD disc for the failed backup at all?

**** IMPORTANT ****
You can upload the wrapper log file as an attachment to your reply, but REMOVE ALL SENSITIVE INFO first from the file and zip it. You can also email the log file to support@cristalink.com.

How did you configure your backups?
Are you using Firestreamer-RM Wrapper?
If yes, the log file is accessible through Backup Task Report.

Attached is the log you are looking for I believe. As for the wrapper, I have a script file that executes the equivilant Firestream wrapper. Hopefully I copied everything I needed properly, but since the other 7 backups are working properly, I can't imagine anything else going on with this...

"C:\Program Files\Cristalink\Firestreamer-RM\FirestreamerRm.exe" /sch /sOwrAge:-1 /sAppendSpace:3000 /sNoSpan /sMediaName:"BWBR ~Y-~M-~D" /sSetName:"BWBR" /sEmail /sEmailTo:"" /sEmailCc:"{user}@{domain}.com" /sMediaType:D /ntb backup "@C:\...\BWBR.bks" /J "BWBR" /M NORMAL /V:yes /R:no /RS:no /HC:on /SNAP:on /L:f

The log files are usually located in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Cristalink\Firestreamer-RM\Logs. To find out the name of a particular log file, right-click the appropriate View Log link in the Backup Task Report, and then click Properties. If you use Internet Explorer, the file name is displayed in the Address (URL) text box. You may need to select the file name with the mouse to view the entire name. To copy a log file to a different location, right-click the appropriate View Log link in the Backup Task Report, and then click Save Target As. Please zip the log file and email it to support@cristalink.com.

I apologize for the slow reply.

As far as I can tell from the log file, it seems that NTBackup performed a backup and then tried to verify it, but didn't like something and ejected the media. Another customer contacted us with a similar strange problem a couple of weeks ago. The solution was to use a new blank disc. Please try the same. Normally, a DVD drive should report an error if there are bad sectors on the media, but there were no errors reported in both cases. It may be that the issue is related to a recent update to the same software package that you and the other customer have installed along with Firestreamer-RM.

On a side note, there was the following error in your log file.

10.11.17 22:49:41.236 E [Main 1628h] Unable to open or create registry key [Software\Cristalink\Firestreamer-RM\CurrentVersion\Logs\00000002_101117_223831], caller=00000000004B6485h: Access is denied [5] [c:\sw\fsrm\projects\nutl\nutl_registry.cpp] 64

It's unlikely that the above error affects the backup, but you need to set appropriate permissions if you use a non-administrative account.
