I have been using firestreamer for several years now, but were running out of tape space so I added some additional drives and more virtual tapes. All of the new virtual tapes that I have added come back with this error:

DPM failed to use the tape in Slot 23 because it appears to be a cleaning tape that is identified incorrectly as a backup tape. (ID 25016 Details: Internal error code: 0x80990C20)

Any idea how to solve this problem? The tapes are on two different sets of drives but neither are working.

Follow the standard troubleshooting procedure. In particular, check the Activity view of the Firestreamer Snap-In for any error or warning messages.

Do not use drive letters. In Media Layout Editor, select all media with Ctrl+A, click Media on the top menu, then click Substitute Drive Letters to replace drive letters with volume names.

Hey John I don't see this option under media, I'm running version 3.95.9.

It seems weird because one of the 4 tapes on the newest drive is working and the rest fail with the following friestreamer error:

06/06/2011 14:29:15 | Error | E016 | L1T002 | Unable to open the medium [L:\FirestreamerWriteAllowed\C7C20PJWK1Z_WEEKLY231000000001D.fsrm]: The system cannot find the file specified [C0000034] | file://L:\FirestreamerWriteAllowed\C7C20PJWK1Z_WEEKLY231000000001D.fsrm*400000 | C7C20PJWK1Z_WEEKLY231000000001D

06/06/2011 14:29:15 | Error | E025 | L1T002 | Unable to insert the medium [file://L:\FirestreamerWriteAllowed\C7C20PJWK1Z_WEEKLY231000000001D.fsrm*400000] into a tape drive: The system cannot find the file specified [C0000034] | file://L:\FirestreamerWriteAllowed\C7C20PJWK1Z_WEEKLY231000000001D.fsrm*400000 | C7C20PJWK1Z_WEEKLY231000000001D

Do I need to upgrade, or is there anything else I can try? It doesn't look like a permissions or HD setup issue.

Thanks,

Dave.

You need to upgrade to the latest version.

How did you come to this conclusion? Most likely, those 4 tapes were not accessed by DPM and therefore didn't produce an error. In any case, Windows reported that "L:\FirestreamerWriteAllowed\C7C20PJWK1Z_WEEKLY231000000001D.fsrm" didn't exist when Firestreamer tried to open it.

Do not use drive letters, see my first reply.

Thanks again John, I think I have solved the problem.

I did upgrade and it did not solve the problem. I then changed from drive letters and it changed most but not all of my tapes over (even though I selected them all) but still did not solve the problem. So what I did was take a blank tape that I know was working and copied the 0KB file and renamed them to tapes that were not working. Strangely some of the tapes that were not working were in the same directory as the one I copied from, so I don't know why Firestreamer would not create the files. Anyways DPM now see's the tapes and has marked them as free, so I'll see this weekend if they are used.

Firestreamer does not automatically create a tape file if it doesn't exist. It's by design, to avoid accidental creation of tapes with duplicate bar codes.

Apparently, either you use Firestreamer in a wrong way, with the same media layout for different drives, or some tapes were deleted outside of Firestreamer without updating the media layout.
