Re: Firestreamer BitLocker
1) Yes, it will work. BitLocker will affect the performance, but otherwise Firestreamer doesn't care. It will be just files on a network share; what's beneath them doesn't matter. 2) You will be able to create virtual tapes on a UNC path. 3) No problem. DPM works fine with multiple libraries. It'd p...

Re: High CPU usage during backup
Does the CPU usage become high immediately after the backup started, or some time after?

Re: High CPU usage during backup
How big is your tape? Try copying a single file of the same size as your tape. Or better perform a backup to a local drive then copy the resulting tape to the iSCSI drive to see if there's a difference in the CPU usage.

Re: High CPU usage during backup
Make sure that both compression and encryption are disabled in Firestreamer-RM. If they are, then the high CPU usage is not normal. Try to back up to a local drive to see if the problem relates to the iSCSI drive.

Re: Tape sizes & DPM2010
Instead of editing the current media layout each time you swap drives, you need to save each media layout as a .fsmap file on the corresponding drive. Then you can simply load the correct media map from the current drive. To save the media layout as a media map, use File > Save As in the Media Layou...

Re: Tape sizes & DPM2010
1) The only way you can differentiate tapes is through the use of multiple tape libraries. You can have up to 8 of them with Firestreamer.
2) It should work, but it's up to DPM. Only Microsoft can guarantee it.

Re: Tape sizes & DPM2010
When you update the media layout in Firestreamer ("unmount" the tapes that are on the disconnected drive and "mount" the tapes that are on the connected drive), it will appear to DPM as if you removed one set of tapes from the tape library and inserted another one. DPM will write...

Re: Tape sizes & DPM2010
If i add a second drive with a 2.5Tb tape in it, will DPM automatically rotate between the two 'tapes' ? As i see no options in DPM to set the tape to backup to. Did you mean to say 5+5=10 tapes? It will rotate unpredictably between all 10 tapes, provided they are defined in the media layout. Does ...

Re: how many disks in tape library
Should a tape library be limited to one box of tapes when I have two boxes of tapes? No, I don't think so. Just use a single tape library. You can always add a second one if you need to.

Re: how many disks in tape library
If by disk drive you mean the storage where you keep multiple virtual tapes, then in terms of physical tape library, your question can be rephrased as follows. "Should I use one physical tape library per box of virtual tapes?". Well, it's entirely up you. It depends on what you are trying ...
