Of the 128GB main memory installed, just over 30GB is still free... Regarding restart - it's a server :) ... and our next outage window is planned for Saturday, however we will need to be sure that Firestreamer is accessible as this window will be used to apply O/S patches and upgrade DPM from 2012R...

The usage of CPU0/core0 is significantly reduced when we disable compression (from 70%-99% (high base load, frequent spikes) back to 15%-60% (with infrequent spikes), and the frequency of spiking is also not visible on the other cores - so this does seem to be compression related.
