Overview

IMPORTANT:

  • Please follow the installation instructions precisely.
  • The beta versions of the changer (3.9x.x) are not intended for production use. Install and use the software at your own risk.
  • The beta version expires in 30 days after the initial installation. An expired beta version has to be either uninstalled or upgraded to a newer version of the software.

The current beta version of Firestreamer Media Changer does not contain any GUI or help files, neither does it create shortcuts on your Desktop or in the Start menu. The beta version comes only with the command line utility that allows you to load media into the changer.

Installing the changer on Microsoft Windows Server 2008

To install the beta version of Firestreamer Media Changer on Microsoft Windows Server 2008, follow the steps below.

  1. Install Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.
  2. Install recent Microsoft DPM updates, in particular:
  3. Download the appropriate version of the Firestreamer Media Changer installer.
  4. IMPORTANT: If you have Firestreamer Media Changer 3.95.3 installed on your computer, do NOT uninstall it before installing the new version. If you uninstalled Firestreamer Media Changer 3.95.3, open the Registry Editor and delete the registry value named FirestreamerBaseSerialNumber under the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E97B-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}. This is to make sure that the new version will get a new serial number.
  5. Double-click the installer's .msi file and follow the wizard pages.
  6. When prompted (up to three times), confirm the installation of the software from Cristalink Limited.
  7. After you installed Firestreamer Media Changer, open Microsoft DPM Administrator Console, click Management > Libraries > Rescan.
  8. If you had Firestreamer Media Changer 3.95.3 installed on your computer, the new version will appear as a new tape library because of the changed serial number. Re-configure your current protection groups to use the new tape library.
  9. Make sure Firestreamer Media Changer is displayed in Microsoft DPM as a tape library with five tape drives and 200 slots.
